Holocaust Education and Memory Map of Poland

In 2008 the Centre for Holocaust Studies JU, in cooperation with the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, initiated a new project based on developing a map of Holocaust Education and Memory in Poland. We are gathering information materials, statistical data, statements and reports from seminars, conferences, workshops for teachers, training sessions and conferences for students, exhibitions as well as other events related to the history and memory of the Holocaust which were organized in the years 1989-2008. We are particularly interested in the number of such events, their participants, and topics.

Some of the most important sources for the database are found in information retrieved from places of memory and martyrdom and museums associated with former concentration camps, as well as information from university libraries pertaining to the number of MA theses and doctoral dissertations written on the subject. The development of the database is not a stand-alone project, but the basis for other more advanced academic research carried out by the CHS JU team. One of the possible uses of this database is to highlight specific centres and to evaluate their work (with the permission of the centre concerned), while at the same time trying to provide Holocaust education for a specific target group.
